I upgrade more than drive this car and figure the driving time is during the summer months. This time I am completing a conversion to four wheel disc brakes, rack and pinion steering and five speed transaxle. I believe this will make my car enjoyable to drive instead of hard work to control. I have owned this car since 1980 and because of the way most Mantas drive it sits garaged rather than driven. I can tell already instead of driving on the edge by the seat of my pants I will finally feel the real drivability of a truly fine exotic sports car. The ease alone of a new cable shifted 5-speed Getrag transaxle with twin upper and lower control arm rear independant suspension will give any Manta owner a sigh of relieve. I will have full documentation and pictures of this project hopefully helping those who wish to follow suit. It will be easier than catching up to follow the car. I understand budgeting and will try my best to get the biggest bang for the buck making this upgrade a must for all my fellow Manta owners. I have nothing against Corvair and in the past has served our purpose well but you really do not have to drive one. Feel free to email with questions or disgust I can take it. |
