Notes |
I aquired this project in the spring of 1978 and been modifying it ever since, I have changed the VW front end to a tubular a arm design with rack and pinion steering, JFZ calipers with costum made rotors, to take care of cooling a winters double cross flow radiator with dual electric fans is used. The motor is a 1970 LT1 350 chevy bored .030 over with 121/2 to 1 pistons, also balanced, heads are a set of 2.02s with roller rockers a racer brown cam set the valves in motion. Oil coolers and larger oil pan had to be fabricated. The transaxle started out to be a covair but that didn't last no matter what beefing up I did to it, So a new ZF was order in 1979 and the whole rear end of the chassis was rebuilt to accommodate this transaxle, new swing arms and radius rods were fabricated, the old spring were removed and new coilover spring added, the shifter is a pantara shifter box reworked to fit in the space. Discs brakes were installed in the rear to give better stopping power. Every piece of the suspension that is removable was sent to the powder coating shop. The interior is black vinyl, the pedals area was moved forward to give the driver more leg room, AC was added for more driver comfort, along with a Halon firebottle fire extinguisher for added safty. Gauges are from Stewart Warner Stage III. The doors, gull wings and head lights are air operated with the touch of a switch. On the exterior, the car was repainted in candy apple red with a touch of what was call back then flip-flop collars (1978) to accent the curves a little pin stripping and a set of Ansen Sprints wheels with BF Goodrich tires. |
